Empowering Through the Arts: Our Programs and Events

At A Reflection of Me, Inc., we believe in the transformative power of the arts to inspire and uplift our community. Our programs are designed to ignite creativity and foster connections, starting with our youth. Through the Let’s Build It Youth Empowerment Program, we equip young individuals with confidence, leadership skills, and career exposure, all while exploring their artistic talents. We also offer the Student Painting and Expressions Program, where youth can express themselves through various art forms, and our Summer and Year-Round Youth Internships, providing mentorship and real-world experience. For the community at large, we host Reflective Moments & Elders Reflection, preserving intergenerational stories and strengthening community ties. Our Family Legacy with Photography initiative captures the essence of family bonds through storytelling and portraits. We also engage the community with our Art Projects & Exhibitions, showcasing local artists and promoting cultural diversity. With our Annual Student Scholarships, we support aspiring artists, ensuring that the next generation of creatives has the resources they need to thrive. Join us in celebrating creativity and building a cohesive community through the arts!

KEEP MOVING SHOE PAINTING

A Reflection of Me, Inc. organizes a remarkable shoe painting program that brings together individuals from diverse age groups, ranging from elementary-age children to adults. During this captivating event, attendees engage in conversations about their emotions and experiences while expressing themselves through the medium of painting. The program emphasizes the therapeutic power of art as an outlet for a range of emotions. It is truly a heartwarming experience as participants freely shared their thoughts and feelings, knowing they were in a safe and non-judgmental environment. Regardless of age or background, everyone was accepted and valued equally, fostering a sense of inclusivity and unity among all participants.

LET'S BUILD IT YOUTH EMPOWERMENT PROGRAM

A Reflection of Me, Inc. created the Let’s Build It Youth Empowerment Program (YEP) to address the critical need for life skills, self-awareness, and informed decision-making among youth. Many young people, particularly those in underrepresented communities, are influenced by misinformation from social media, peers, and society. This program equips them with the tools to think critically, build healthy relationships, and develop leadership skills—using the arts as a foundational medium for self-expression and learning.

Designed for youth ages 13-18, YEP is currently a 6 day program, with a goal of expanding to five weeks. Each session integrates expert-led discussions with artistic activities to reinforce key life lessons.

  • The Power of Image: Exploring self-perception, media influence, and positive storytelling through photography and drawing.
  • Family & Community Relationship Building: Strengthening connections at home and in the community through poetry.
  • Finance, Mental & Physical Health: Teaching financial literacy, wellness, and self-care through painting and drawing.
  • Leadership & Civic Engagement: Developing leadership skills and civic awareness through music and dance.
  • Education, Career & Entrepreneurship: Exploring career paths and entrepreneurship through sculpting and graphic design.

The program culminates in a public art exhibition, where participants showcase their creative expressions, engage with family and community members, and celebrate their growth.

Empowering Students Through the Arts

Through school visits, exhibition tours, and creative activities, A Reflection of Me, Inc. brings the power of art directly to students. Our hands-on workshops and guided gallery experiences help youth explore identity, build confidence, and express their stories through photography, painting, poetry, and more. Each visit sparks creativity, connection, and a deeper appreciation for their voices and communities.

STUDENT SCHOLARSHIPS

A Reflection of Me, Inc. provides 2 Annual Student Scholarships:

The Maitild Joisil and Leonne Mathias Community Engagement Scholarship Awarded to a Black student with scholastic achievement and a demonstrated commitment to community involvement.

The Ignite The Artist Within Scholarship Awarded to any high school senior or post-secondary student pursuing studies in the arts.

FAMILY LEGACY WITH PHOTOGRAPHY

A Reflection of Me, Inc. created Family Legacy with Photography as a community program where we capture family portraits.  This event empowers multi-generational families with expert speakers in finance, insurance, funeral planning, medical care, and mental health. It combines creative expression with educational workshops  on topics like financial planning, health, and generational wealth-building, fostering both personal and communal growth..  Each family receives a framed legacy portrait to commemorate the experience.  By providing families with a keepsake legacy portrait and essential knowledge, the program inspires participants to embrace their identities while planning for a prosperous multi-generational future.

CELEBRATING CULTURE, EMPOWERING COMMUNITY: OUR IMPACT THROUGH THE ARTS

At A Reflection of Me, Inc., in partnership with Juicing With Art, we are proud to present a series of transformative cultural events and programs that celebrate the richness of Black and Haitian heritages, elevate women's voices, and inspire social progress through the arts. Each experience is thoughtfully curated to educate, connect, and uplift our community while amplifying stories that often go unheard.

Each of these events is more than a celebration — they are cultural experiences that promote education, healing, and empowerment. By centering historically marginalized voices, we:

  • Create inclusive spaces for expression, dialogue, and connection across generations and cultures.
  • Educate through the arts, making history and social justice issues accessible and emotionally resonant.
  • Foster cultural pride and awareness, especially for Black and Haitian communities in South Florida.
  • Support local artists, youth, and small businesses, offering opportunities for exposure, employment, and collaboration.
  • Inspire collective action by engaging the community in conversations that lead to meaningful change.

Through these gatherings, we remind each other of our shared humanity and of the power that lives within our stories. At A Reflection of Me, Inc., we believe art is not just a tool for expression — it is a catalyst for transformation.

Elder's Reflection:

Nana, Gran, Papa, Granny and Grandpa are some of the names they are known by. Whether they have biological children or not, our elders have paved the way for us. They serve as pillars within our homes, communities or have simply been a shoulder and a voice for their family and for those around them. Our elders, some quiet and reserved, others boisterous and at the forefront of making changes, have much to share. A Reflection of Me, Inc created Elders' Reflection to hear the stories of our elders. They will share their life journeys and messages with younger generations. Come and virtually sit at the foot of our elders. We are building Family Legacies!
